001. MISC. PHYSICAL HEADCANONS

(( here is a bunch of miscellaneous physical headcanons i have about the guys, going from the ones with the least changes to the most! Vash and Chai .. are going to have a lot more due to the nature of my insane fixation on them. ))

ASH WILLIAMS

Ash has five different prosthetic hands, and several chainsaw stumps to attach to his hand.

He prefers to keep his hair as swoopy and voluminous as he had it in army of darkness ( even old ash. sorry ihate his slick combed back look )

GARY GOODSPEED

Gary naturally has heterochromia and blue + brown eyes, but after his possession by invictus, they are a striking bright pink. and it's permanent! Here's a ref i drew of him with them.

Post invictus, he grows his hair out and wears a far more complicated outfit. Like the concept art for the FS graphic novel.

JOSEPH JOESTAR

On top of having a prosthetic right arm, Joseph ALSO has a prosthetic left leg. This is because of the fact that LAVA HIT HIS KNEE CAP IN THAT FINAL BATTLE WITH KARS THERE IS NO WAY THAT DIDN'T DESTROY IT BEYOND REPAIR!!!!! So, double amputee.

When he is upset or mad, Joseph's hand clicks and wriggles around every joint independantly, and it is typically the only tell that he's angry or upset in any way if he's trying to hide the fact.

Joseph's arm was made by the SPW. not. who they're from in canon. <:) On top of that, it has several different functions, and a different appearance from canon. There are 5 star shaped buttons on it with varying uses. I.. still need to decide them, though.

He is NEVER ever seen without the remaining burnt headband of Caesar's. Ever. A common stim he has is twirling the ends of it.

CHAI

Now, i have a big ol' about page coming for Chai soon, but let's start here.

To get things out of the way; Chai has HORRIFICALLY poor vision. He refuses to get glasses though, because he is certain it makes him look like a nerd. He really, REALLY NEEDS THEM though. He's more farsighted.

Chai always had arrhythmia and other heart defects before his surgery at Vandelay. On top of that, he did not have mobility in his left arm at all, which is why he went in for the arm surgery. They told him they'd help with his heart too, but ...

.. the MP3 player + core replaced his heart entirely. And also gave him top surgery for free, even though he'd been too poor to afford it, as his breasts got in the way of the core. However, his top scars are more than just that; there are thick scars, branding him with the vandelay logo down his entire torso, becauuuuse...

His insides and organs had to be reworked to physically accept such a drastic change to his body. I'm talking moved around, and more than just his heart and arm replaced with robotics.

He straight up is an eldritch, terrifying mess of organs and wires in there. He doesn't know how much of him is robotic and how much is organic anymore. I draw this from the factt hat when electrocuted, Chai's skeleton shows up -- but his skeleton also includes the magnetic waste management tool in his arm, as well as the fact that the things he survives physically NOBODY ELSE CAN. AT ALL. like jesus christ he is somehow so resilient to things literally nobody else in game is under the same circumstances. Also, his body and brain can be hacked directly from his arm. You can't do that with organics, only tech.

So... that's why I think he's more robot than person now. Or cybernetic, if you want to get technical. W/e

His life span has been extended by an unknown amount, and he will age significantly slower if at all due to this change in his body. Oh, and the outer shell of the arm is made of a compound that is not metal. Dont know what it is, but it's still just as strong and durable.

It is possible for Chai to sync with other robotic beings in the same way he synced with 808( his cat ); you have a 50/50 chance of hearing the music that always plays in his head forever, like 808 now does, OR hearing the world moving to a musical beat for the rest of your life. Until he dies, anyways -- if / when he does.

His music core is shown to thump and beat like a heart, and if it pounds hard enough, it's enough to jerk his chest and cause him to get a little dazed-- it's definitely uncomfortable when it thumps so hard. I think he watches it cause he's nervous if his heart is fucking up or something, given that was a BIG health anxiety his entire life. Only 808 managed to snap him out of it, as you can see here.

Speaking of that, post surgery? He LITERALLY can not process anything beyond music and beat he can not hear. For the rest of his life, he will always move to a beat nobody can hear; the environment makes music around him; you can see in this example here how everything in the environment and even his own movements fall largely to the beat of the song. See the video below for an example of this.

He will never be able to hear or see the world regularly again. Not that Chai minds; he LOVES music. Adores it, even. He'd be happy to live with this the rest of his life. Which is good, cause he really has to.

He picked up cat tendencies from 808 when they synchronized, just as 808 picked up chai mannerisms ( like the way he fights & love of rock and roll ). They often mirror each other because Chai is influencing 808's expression more than you'd think! They pretty much share a single braincell now.

And, to close it all off; the surgery also gave him insane durability, as already discussed.. but it ALSO gave him nuts dashing techniques, and an ability to jump to a ridiculous degree. He's a very sturdy man now!

VASH SAVEREM

Vash only LOOKS human, but as we know, he certainly ISNT. He's a Plant; an independant variety, which is exceedingly rare. Plants are strange fusions of literal plants, angels, and mechanical blueprints that all meld together to make a more techno-organic being.

Because he only LOOKS human, I have PLENTY of hc's about his body and form and how they actually differentiate from your typical human.

First and foremost; he's trans. ALL plants are born female, no exceptions, as said by canon; which makes vash canonically trans. Pretty cool, right? but, in canon, where he doesn't have this -- he has plant private parts ( flower based ) and one of his breasts left. He has no desire to bind or for top surgery, as his chest is small anyways -- but he lost one of them a long time ago. More about the state of his body later, but this is important to still note.

Now, his teeth. He has fangs that he has filed down to look smaller, but they are still pretty sharp. His teeth are NOT defined like a humans; it's like .. kind of a solid plate of metal for bone? Teeth? With only vague outlines of where they should separate.

His eyes are an unnatural piercing blue, which we already know; however, the reason he wears those big orange glasses may surprise you! They're actually marksman glasses, which are known to be orange; however, they also serve as a neutralizer to his eyes. If you look at his glasses head on, through them, his eyes look like a neutral blue-gray. However, if you take off his glasses, they're still a BRIGHTLY inhuman blue.

And yes, they glow in the dark.

In BLUE and UV LIGHT specifically, his plant marks will show no matter what. Though, in blue light, they're much fainter / mostly in the eyes ( and they make them glow as you see in the example below ), while in UV all light patterns are exposed. When he heals plants, these also become pretty visible -- but if he has too use TOO much of his angelic power, one of two things could happen.

He goes comatose and unresponsive for a short while; blank stare, unable to react or process anything around them. Sometimes he can snap out of it, sometimes he can't. It really depends.

His hair will brown or blacken. If you know what this means, have a gold star! If you don't, this means he is ACTIVELY shortening his life span and using too much of his power at once. When a plant's hair browns or blackens, it means they no longer have limitless energy.

Side note; since we see that since birth, Vash has had BROWN EYEBROWS ( whereas all plants are born with blonde hair and blonde eyebrows, and blue eyes, NO MATTER WHAT ); i have a headcanon that because Nai is based on a toxic albino plant that was never meant to live in the reboot, he subconciously saved Nai at birth. He was always the stronger twin in terms of health, where Nai was sicker.

Also .. despite his glasses being pretty normal marksman glasses, he can do this thing where he reflects everything in the environment BUT his eyes subconciously; it's a big tell that he's trying to stay distant and not let people read his next expressions. He often does this to distance himself or when he's being vague. It happens a bunch in moments specifically where he does that in show, so im adopting that as a little weird plant quirk he can do. Call it manipulation of light and reflection, I suppose, since he IS a plant...

He's way taller than he looks. He will keep continuously growing for the rest of his life til a certain point, to which his true height would be around 9 ft to 10 ft tall at the least when in humanoid form. However, as of right now, he is 7'5 in his natural body. Here's the fun part though; he actually SHIFTS HIS BONES and condenses his weight and appearance to look more humanlike, but that still leaves him at a hefty 6'5. Even despite this effort to appear smaller and more unassuming, due to the poor nutrition on Gunsmoke, nearly every human is much, much smaller than him. Unless they've been genetically and unethically modified, of course. Then they can get fucking giant . But, nobody matches his height on an average basis there.

when he's in his full 7'5 ( and growing!! ) form, his limbs are gangly, and too long. His eyes look Bigger, and his skin a little bluer; his fingertips get elongated with a black gradient like all his plant sisters. Example here.

His angel arm is something he does not bring out due to a great deal of trauma with that and knives; he does not have access to a full plant angel form. What he DOES have access to is a gigantic angel arm, and three pairs of wings; parts of his body transform into an eldritch mechanical angel kind of being, but not all of his body can. This is because of his twin, Nai / Knives having the other half. Had Nai never existed, Vash would have full access to his plant angel form. He is one of the most powerful plants of his kind with said angel arm, but ... he'd sooner kill himself than ever use it. There'sa a whole rant i have about how he feels having been forced to have it out, but .. that's for later.

Now, for this paragraph, heads up for y'all for mentions of starvation and body dysmorphia, over all bad condition of a body. The next red text you'll see is where discussion of this stops. as is pretty heavily established, Vash has a great deal of body dysmoprhia. He is absolutely letting his body fall apart at the seams, and frequently punishes himself for "failing" to protect people by starving himself, despite needing it to survive / have energy and heavily enjoying food. That is why he's so damn scrawny! Which is unfortunate, but he has so so many complexes ( shout i make a separate infodump about this too? ) tht this is just par for the course. Now, he could heal the scars and shit on his body faster if he wanted to, but he's pretty self conscious about it. He will let any humans hurt him if he deems it justified, and unforch, he usually does. He lets them beat him senseless, cut him up, shoot him -- nothing he couldn't survive, anything goes. his body is straight up canonically barely held together by thick staples and grates of metal over exposed muscle.

This is part of why he never takes off his coat, ever. Or those long sleeved shirts of his. I mean, he might to shower or clean up wounds, but...... very rarely does he do this. He just takes whatever beating humans give him cause he feels he deserves it, and deals with it.

With all the heavy stuff said, here's a few final short hcs.

He photosynthesizes some, and really enjoys basking in the sun.

He's a very light sleeper and rarely ever gets decent sleep. He's pretty much always exhausted, but never lets it show.

CAN'T EVER LISTEN TO CLASSICAL MUSIC. it puts him into SERIOUS triggered mode and gets him too panicked to think straight, even after Nai / Knives died.

His hair looks like normal hair, but it absolutely DOES NOT feel like it. It feels like really soft velvety flower petals, and will always keep this consistency.

He's got inhumanly amazing marksmanship, yet somehow, being drunk ( should he ever GET drunk ) improves it more. Yes, I stole this bit from 98 vash but i think it's funny and it's my interpretation so this is what i keep. ok? :)

And lastly ...

He stims by reloading and loading guns :3

Slag Woman 

DHN.006 - スラグウーマン “Trying to start something? Good. I lava good fight.”

Good Point - Endurance Bad Point - Blunt Like - Alcohol Dislike - Sleep

5’9” (175.26 cm)

A robot built for construction and repair by Dr. Harp. Unlike the others, they were also directly modified for combat, and acts as an unassuming bodyguard for the others. Like Nail Woman, they do not have a specific species in mind, but is modeled after a slug.

Slag Woman’s large and barely mobile lower body (a flattened naga or gorgon-esque tail instead of legs) limits their mobility, but houses an impressive furnace for the intake, smelting, and excreting of molten metal. Most of the time it is siphoned up into their upper torso area to be injected into casts, or loaded into their weapons, but can also be vented out of their arms and ‘slug’ torso from the waist-down like protective slime, though doing so also anchors them in place. They can control their own molten metal like extra limbs using Future Technology sophisticated magnetism.

Since their body is filled with molten metal, Slag is the heaviest Harp Number (heavier than Heavy, ironically). However, as a testament to Heavy's strength, the python can lift them just fine if they need to get somewhere more quickly than their usual, painfully slow locomotion.

Their 'hair' appears molten, but is not heated, composed instead of a luminescent, ferrous, putty-like compound controlled by the same magnetism, and simply looks that way for aesthetics. They do, however, 'eat' solid food (and metals for smelting) through a hidden mouth-like intake in the back of their head, and thus appears to absorb it into their hair. This is because their 'mask' doesn't open up, instead being made of a spongy, speaker-like material that can only take in fluid.

Opposite to Nail Woman, Slag Woman hates sleeping, and as a result always seems sluggish and tired. This has the added benefit of having others let their guard down around them, especially considering how lethal their combat abilities can be. They have a cannon for launching powerful ballistic ammunition (Slag Shot), and their overall weight (and ability to anchor themself to the ground) gives them a Hell of a punch at close range. While they’re not nearly as strong in a lifting sense as Heavy Woman, they’re much more inclined to choose violence as a solution to problems.

Their predominantly graphite and ceramic construction can also take a significant beating, but their finer ceramic internals are a little more susceptible to fracture damage from massive trauma. They rely mostly on the element of surprise to get the upper hand.

Slag Woman drinks alcohol an awful lot, giving them the impression of a drunkard, especially with their seemingly slow and lazy outlook. That said, they actually have an incredible alcohol tolerance compared to other robots, and can drink almost anybody under the table. They argue that alcohol helps power their internal furnace for melting metal.

Slag Woman has a multi-layered pun name:

Slag references their primary function of dealing with molten metal and metal refuse

Slug (pronounced suraggu (スラッグ) vs slag’s suragu (スラグ))

Slug also meaning a strong punch/hit, or metal/lead bullets, for their combat abilities

Slug can also be used as a colloquial measure for gulping down liquor.

26 was a fine example of a Sun Class Command Exoskeleton. She boasted a sensor suite in her deployment pod that would scatter transceivers across a 200 kilometer radius, offering a 360° view on the ground, as well as radar, infrared, and visual coverage of the sky. She'd been outfitted for the toughest conditions known, whether fighting for an asteroid or a lava ball with an acidic atmosphere. She had the command and control drones to watch every engagement, scout terrain, and even provide minor diversionary capabilities. She was 26 of 30 of a brand new class of command suite, brought about to revolutionize the Mobile Infantry, and she was destined for great and terrible things.

She was blooded in the disastrous first wave on Racket Prime, commanding a doomed beachhead for almost 200 hours before her pilot suffered a stress-induced heart attack. Upon recovery, her pilot was posthumously awarded the Federation's highest honor, the Conspicuous Service Star, and promoted to Major. 26 was fully recovered and refitted, having suffered minimal damage, then given to 5th Squadron (Roughnecks), FNS Defiant.

Aboard the Rogers, 26 was piloted first by an upright young woman who led her troops sharply, from her rigid insistence on absolute attention to detail when it came time for inspection, to her astute and clear briefings and debriefings before and after every drop, and there were a great many drops through the few months of her command. Some were successful, some were not. But always, the Roughnecks held their line. That upright young woman died in 26's cockpit while recovering a downed trooper on Har. 26's autopilot activated, bringing both pilots home to evac.

The next captain of the Roughnecks was more brash, angrier. He drove the Roughnecks hard, shouting and castigating as he whipped his men forward, dragging them through hell after hell with sheer force of will. They loved him and hated him. The characteristic THUNK-SHHHHH of 26's hydraulics slamming into the ground was the sound of humiliation and salvation as her pilot screamed curses all round, demanding his "cowardly" men dive headlong into the mass with him as 26 launched rockets and flamed hostiles, shoulder cannons fanning across ranks. Screaming his death came, as he exhorted his troopers to fight their way out of a tunnel, trapped beneath the surface by his own rage after only six weeks.

26's recovery took weeks, and repairs took even longer, but she took the field again. A new pilot had been assigned to her, and then another, and another, and another. The Roughnecks began to develop a name as a bad crew, one which attracted glory-boys and fools to command.

Eventually, 26 would lose not only her pilot, but her squadron. During a border clash with a neighboring power, the Roughnecks were to raid a minor outpost, doing minimal damage. However, the raid had been an ambush, and the Roughnecks were destroyed to a man, with less than one in five troopers even making it to the surface, and only a single suit on autopilot making it to evac.

Maintenance crews check her annually, running diagnostics and going through mock fit-ups to make sure she's still operational, but she's quietly considered unfit for duty. During her mock-ups, pilots report unusual sensor readings, though nothing overt. Gun timings are always a little too sharp, leading her to fire without target lock, or else fire salvos rather than single rockets. Often near the end of her mock-ups, pilots become irritable, citing an increase in nightmares and loss of sleep.

thinking about the potential for mech pilot body horror/dysmorphia. seeing something high above you or farther away than you can easily traverse with your own body and feeling a rush of vertigo, as though you should be able to reach out and touch it, or clear the distance in a single stride. after so long spent inside the mech that it's become like an extension of yourself, it can be difficult to adjust to being human again.

Mechanauts’ Guild

For centuries, the pinnacle of mechanized vehicles was the apparatus of the crab, a singular device capable of exploring inhospitable environments, from the sea floor to lava-strewn volcanic fields. However, ambitious craftsmen from the Mechanauts’ Guild have drawn up designs for a new vehicle, mightier and more customizable than the old apparatus. This device is a walking tank, equipped with savage fists, scuttling legs, and climate control enhancements—a vehicle to dwarf all others, a true feat of engineering.

MECHANAUT'S APPARATUS At 3rd level, you complete the frame of a Mechanaut’s Apparatus, with ample room for upgrades and improvements. Its blueprints are based on the apparatus of the crab, but you can model your apparatus after any beast or as a humanoid figure. Apparatus Statistics. The statistics of your apparatus are given in the Mechanaut’s Apparatus stat block. The apparatus’s Armor Class is based on your Intelligence modifier and its hit points are based on your craftsman level. Customizing the Apparatus. Your apparatus comes with two installed masterwork melee weapons, which you can modify with masterwork properties or replace with different melee weapons when you finish a long rest. Your apparatus is always proficient with its installed weapons, and can use masterwork weapons with Master and Legendary properties. Repairing the Apparatus. When your apparatus drops to 0 hit points, it can’t move or act, but can be repaired. You can spend 1 minute restoring the apparatus’s ability to move at half speed, which it loses if it takes damage again before it is repaired. You can repair your apparatus at the end of a short rest by spending Hit Dice, causing it to regain hit points as if it had taken a short rest. When you finish a long rest, you can repair your apparatus, causing it to regain all its hit points. You are always considered to have enough materials to repair your apparatus. If your apparatus is lost, you can build a new one for 400 gp. Entering and Exiting the Apparatus. A creature that isn’t wearing armor can use half its movement to enter or exit the apparatus. While within the apparatus, a creature has total cover from effects originating outside of it. Only one Medium or Small creature can be in the apparatus at a time. While inside the apparatus, a creature takes half the damage the apparatus takes.

Piloting the Apparatus. Your apparatus acts on your turn, though it doesn’t take actions unless you are piloting it. Any creature inside the apparatus can command it to move (no action required), but only you can use your action to pilot the apparatus, commanding it to take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Dodge action. It was peaceful there, out in the void where you had ended up. 

Wilbur was there, as well as a man called Shlatt, and even Tommy for a time. 

When Shlatt had appeared in the after life he’d seemed annoyed at your questions about the smp, and when Wilbur arrived all he’d done was apologize, never once mentioning the fate the the land you held so dear.

Tommy had come kicking and screaming for someone to stop, he’d left just the same, only moments later. 

It was his leaving that had confused you all the most, how had Tommy escaped the afterlife.

“Ehhh, whatever the crazy bastard did it seemed to work.” Shlatt chuckled.

“Shouldn’t have been down here in the first place.” Wilbur muttered.

You sighed, “Maybe he could’ve told me about what’s actually going on up there.”

Before either could respond something seemed to grab the back of your short and starting to drag you back. 

“(y/n)?” Was the last thing you heard from Wilbur before you were pulled through what felt like layer after layer of jello. 

You cried out in pain as it seared into you, and then ended all at once as you landed on cold obsidian, breathing heavily, “What the hell?”

“(y/n)! Holy shit (y/n)!” 

You looked around to see Dream, yelling, “It worked!” 

“D- Dream?” You asked, “What’s going on? I- I was dead- where- what-”

You were cut off by his arms being flung around you, “Holy shit I missed you!”

“I missed you too- but whats going on, why- why are you wearing my mask?” You asked as you pulled away. 

“I- I’ve been wearing it in your honor.” He explained. 

You nodded, “How- how did I get here? I- Tommy killed me- I was dead.” 

Dream held up a book, “It was the one thing I managed to get in here. I brought you back to life.” 

You reached out, slipping the mask up and off of his face, “Dream how long has it been?” 

His head dipped, “Years. I didn’t know if it would work until Tommy. I had to- to kill him- with my bare hands, but it worked. I got him back, and I got you back.” He pulled a chain out of his shirt, pulling your ring off of it and slipping it onto your finger. 

“What’s been going on- since I’ve been gone?”

He took a deep breath, “When you- died, the war against L’manburg started. We had won, after blowing their country up and getting a spy on the inside, but after the duel Tommy traded his disks for independence...”

Dream spoke of the rise of L’manburg, his view of the elections and the chaos of the Shlatt administration. How he had manipulated the outcome of the war, till Wilbur had gone insane and blown it all to pieces. How he’d run the Tubbo administration into the ground, and how he’d gotten Tommy exiled, how he’d followed him to exile, tricking him into thinking they were friends. Everything had been working out, right up until the end. Right up until the last person he’d had on his side was swayed to the other by money. 

You sat, listening, silently wondering what had happened to the man you knew. 

“Why did you do it?” You asked quietly, sometime later as he finished telling how he had ended up here, in prison. 

“Do what?” 

You looked up at him silently, “Manipulate them. The man I knew would have never done that.”

“What do you mean? Its still me.” A wide, unnatural grin splitting across his face. 

Slowly you rose, moving back toward the lava, “No- your not him. The Dream I know didn’t want to start a war. He didn’t want the violence.” 

“Sometimes Violence is the only option.” Dream said.

“He wouldn’t have manipulated anyone. Dream they were just kids! You didn’t have to mess with their minds.” Your voice shook. 

“It was the only way (y/n), the only way I could be with you again.” 

You shook your head, “Not like this- Dream you- you’re a monster...”

The thing he had been working for for so long.

Sam had come and retrieved a freshly brought back to life Tommy from his cell and now he was ready. 

Slowly, Dream followed the steps from the book again, opening the door to the afterlife and reaching through to grab you, to grab his love. 

And he pulled, and pulled until suddenly you were back, gasping and reeling, and just as beautiful as you had been. 

He whooped, “It worked!”

How he’d become even better friends with Ranboo, and how he’d gotten locked away from trying to grow his colection.

“Why did you do it?” You asked quietly after he’d finished. 

Dream cocked his head, “Do what?”

Your eyes met his, “Manipulate them. The man I knew would have never done that.”

“What do you mean? Its still me.” He grinned as if to prove his point. .

Slowly you backed away to the edge of the cell, No- your not him. The Dream I know didn’t want to start a war. He didn’t want the violence.”

You watched almost in slow motion as his hand moved out enough to shove you, and you toppled backward, slowly into the lava, the sounds of your own screams filling your ears until you appeared back in the other place. 

“Well that didn’t last very long.” Shlatt said, not even looking up. 

“He’s still doing it, he’s sill insane. Why does he have to keep doing this?” Your shoulders shook with sobs. 

Wilbur patted your head, “Maybe one day he’ll realize. Maybe one day.”

So, introducing, the one thing I'm sure most people have been waiting for, HAPPY FANE! *throws confetti and flowers around* (well, sorta, kinda! >:3)

It was sometimes difficult to remember what he fought for when the world seemed to inch closer and closer to the edge of decay and corruption, the dirt cracked, the sky held back. It was sometimes unbearable to endure when pain colored everything in shades of grey and shades of red. Most notably, that pain was the worst when Fane had to face a dragon; one of his own. It was even worse when it were multiple at a time.

The bridge to Judicael's Crossing was finally completed after weeks of minor setbacks. The scaffolding dilemma, the integrity of the main foundation making it difficult to replicate the upper walkway, and the weather, snow squalls and nipping winds chilling Inquisition workers to their bones. Thankfully, the crew tasked with reparations had prevailed, and that was where Fane found himself now; across the frozen stone and into the lair, or rather, lairs of three dragons.

He hadn't ordered anyone to mobilize into the area nor did he group together his own party. No, he went alone, unafraid and unhindered, across the freshly repaired bridge, hearing the calls, the cries, of his kin. Even in their frenzied states, if he was careful, cautious, and aware, then they wouldn't attack him on principle. Dragons knew what their nature truly was, even when madness and fear gripped their minds and their hearts so tightly, so fiercely. So, he had gone across without anybody, without Solas, even. Fane knew his sky would probably be miffed, but there was something...calling to him, and it wasn't something he could let lay.

It was why he was now traversing the inner workings of one of the ancient 'stadiums' of the Crossing, the paths narrow for his broad frame, the stone echoing with the fall of his boots. He had heard the 'call' from within the grey granite, even from across the bridge, so he had let curiosity take hold and lead him towards its end.

"I hear it..", Fane whispered to the air, breath condensing from the frigid air that neither bothered or worried him. He pressed a hand against the cool surface of a wall, closing his eyes to hone in on what he could only describe as a 'beat', a gentle 'dum dum dum'. "..It's faint, but it's a heart beat."

Fane let his hand slide down the stone as he reopened his eyes, turning his head to look down the passageway. It was dark, dank, crumbling with ice caking the edges of the stone to where it shimmered from the torch he was holding, but none of that frightened him. He had walked miles in the dark, crimson flames flickering in the distance of his mind until they blazed into an inferno, burning his memories to ash, fueling his actions to incinerate anything and everything without his consent, without his knowledge, so ice reflecting orange hues and shadows dancing upon chipped walls was nothing to him.

"It's further in.", Fane said aloud, readjusting his grip on the torch so he wouldn't drop it. He may have walked into darkness all his life, but he still couldn't see past its sturdy veil without proper lighting. It wouldn't do for him to drop his only source of it. "Maybe her nest is deeper?", he questioned as he slowly began to walk down the corridor, keeping his free hand skimming along the stone to detect the whisper of a beat.

Fane was just about to descend a set of stairs when a deeper, softer, but familiar beat had him freezing in place, skimming hand pressing flat against the stone as his eyes went wide. That beat. He knew that beat!

"No..", he breathed out airily, pushing against the wall furiously to try and find that same deep pulse of life, of kin again. "Where are you? Please, please.." He continued to press, skim, trail his fingers and palm along the stone before his actions halted again, but this time from something else.

A voice. A very familiar, albeit exasperated voice.

"Fane, what are you doing here?"

Fane blinked at lilt and silk, body still frozen in place, the beat of stone and heart forgotten as he turned his gaze to look over his shoulder. He sighed in both relief and defeat when he saw who had spoken, shadows dancing on regarding edges of a face he knew and loved all too well.

"Solas.", Fane sighed again, his body relaxing as he straightened himself to his full height, having slid down a bit to seek a beat that he could still hear in the back of his mind, in the deepest recesses of his soul. "What are you doing here?"

Solas stood several feet away, but Fane could see a light flush on the mage's cheeks, his nose, and the tips of his ears, but from the cold or a possible sprint, he didn't know. Though, the man's chest was rising and falling fairly quickly as if he had been running. Blue-grey took on an orange cast from the light of Fane's torch, making them look pale as the snow outside, but they were no less striking, no less annoyed with him, and his sky's voice held that same level of annoyance as it sounded again, bouncing off the walls delicately.

"I believe I asked that question first.", Solas reminded, arms crossed and stance reprimanding as blue eyes bore into his own. Surprisingly, no staff was present upon his back, and that made Fane smirk a little despite the situation he was in. The sky was clever, and deeply aware of the same thing he was.

Fane sighed when Solas' glare seemed to sharpen; the elf's foot tapping in aggravation, supposedly at his smirk or just the entire happening in general. He was in for it now, wasn't he? He was.

"You did.", Fane affirmed before letting his gaze wander back to the icy walls. He could still hear the beat, and his heart yearned to follow where it would crash. "I...hear one of my kin.", he admitted, glancing back to observe Solas' reaction and let out a tiny sigh when sharpness mellowed out, blue making more of an appearance in grey as graceful legs finally began to close the distance between them.

"I see.", Solas said, coming up to stand next to him but with a small frown. "And you did not come to me why?" The question held a hint of hurt, a hint of confusion in its dropped quality, making Fane grimace and let out a small growl, but not at his sky.

"I..", Fane started, heaving a heavy sigh as he tilted his head down to connect gazes more fiercely. Solas met it without flinching, expression no longer stern, merely curious and observing. "..don't really know.", he admitted once more, eyes going hooded. "I just heard the beat from across the bridge, and I..followed it."

Solas sighed softly. "I understand, Fane, but it..", he trailed off, the same flush from before reappearing and this time, Fane knew it wasn't from sprinting or mild anger.

Fane smiled a bit. "Frightened you?", he finished for the man, chuckling deeply when Solas only nodded, slender body shifting with uncommon embarrassment, but blue-grey never left him, sparkling like the palest of aquamarine. "I'm fine, Solas. More than fine actually because my curiosity paid off."

That was right. The beat he had heard just before the mage arrived was familiar to him and it meant something grand. It was faint, quiet, but that was how it was supposed to be. Most of his kin nowadays held a jagged edge to their drums of life, staccatos rushing towards the ending of a crescendo, so for him to be able to hear one fluttering, flying with grace and patience...that meant he was not the last.

He was not the last of his whitened kin. There was a white dragon here! There was! And that revelation nearly had Fane turning on his heel and sprinting down the stairs, the beat in the back of his mind picking up with his excitement, observing his emotions as it was supposed to!

Solas tilted his head, a tiny smile blooming across his lips. "Oh?", he uttered in question, obviously detecting a shift in his demeanor and coming a bit closer to where Fane was practically shuffling around. "Your discovery obviously has you excited, my dragon. Will you share that with me, at least?"

Fane nodded, feeling how the corner of his lips twitched with the want to smile. He felt...light, unburdened for once as his heart began to race along with the one he could hear whispering, 'I'm here. I'm here. Where are you?'

"I hear one of my kin.", Fane reiterated his statement from earlier, nearly laughing when Solas raised an eyebrow at him, but he was smiling a bit more, obviously basking in his uncommon excitement.

"So you had said earlier, but this seems--"

"One of my kin, my sky!", Fane exclaimed, voice wobbling with unbridled happiness and joy, laughter tickling it, warmth hugging its cool deepness. "A white dragon! There's one here, somewhere! I can hear them!" He felt so happy, so free, so hopeful! When was the last time he had felt so hopeful, not weighted down by the world's inevitable spiral due to corruption and the lack of beings needed to prevent such a spiral?!

Solas' eyes widened a bit. "You're certain?", he asked, the smile from before widening to where Fane felt his own do the same, his cheeks hurting from the action, but he didn't care! His kin! His kin was alive! They endured, someway, somehow!

Fane nodded, the tips of his hair brushing against his cheeks from the excitement coursing through him like liquid lava. "Yes! Here!", he said. With a quick movement, he grabbed a hold of Solas' wrist, bringing it to lay against the wall. There was no resistance to be had, the mage easily allowing him to take control, sky-like eyes gazing up at him with softness, tenderness, and all the love in the world. "Do you hear their heart?", he asked softly, biting into his bottom lip as he awaited the answer. He was so happy, so happy..

He hoped the sky would be happy, too. To have another dragon within its expanse.

Solas turned his gaze from his own slowly, reluctantly, a tender smile still on his face as he closed his eyes, blue and grey hidden from view as focus took hold. The pause was pregnant, unbearably long, but eventually, Fane saw it in the way elegant features brightened, went lax with quiet wonder, usually composed breath hitched with quiet excitement. The sky was happy, just as its dragon was! And as eyelids cracked open, blue holding sparks of joyous orange from the torch, Fane couldn't contain himself, couldn't contain the bubbling emotion of joy, of happiness, of jubilant static!

"I'm not the last, Solas. I thought I was the last..", Fane whispered shakily as he threw the torch down and practically threw his arms around Solas, lifting the elf off the ground with ease born of raw strength and an even stronger force; happiness.

Solas only let out a surprised grunt, but soon let out a fond, adoring chuckle, deftly wrapping his arms around Fane's neck and leaning all of his weight into him, which the other took easily and without a shred of protest. No scars, no pain, no agonizing dread could pierce the bastion of his joy at this moment! His kin was alive, alive and sane! It was the start of everything he had thus far worked towards, battling ignorance and narrow mindedness with the threat of insanity clicking in the depths of his soul, but now, now there was hope! Blinding hope, white hot hope!

A dragon's hope!

"Shall we go find them?", Solas asked tenderly, equally as tender fingers beginning to tickle the nape of his neck and the hairs that lined it, a smile to match Fane's own only ramping up his excitement.

Fane nodded happily and energetically as he leaned into lay a quick kiss to happily smiling lips before setting the mage down carefully. Solas chuckled fondly once more before reaching up to guide him back down, sealing their lips together more firmly this time, to which Fane reciprocated readily, sighing deeply through his nose and tilting his head just so to deepen the kiss immediately. He couldn't help it, he couldn't contain this wellspring of emotion, and neither could Solas from how Fane could feel their kiss quicken, grow with passion so them, so natural. And as nature dictated also, they had to part before long, their frenzied excitement literally renting their lungs of oxygen.

Fane still had a large smile plastered on his face as he pulled away, chest heaving with so much, but so was the sky's as blue and grey twinkled even in the dark corridor of a crumbling building. Solas gave one of his cheeks a tender stroke, expression loving, smile wide. Such light and levity had Fane feeling mildly playful, leaning down and in again to nuzzle at a sharp jaw, the receiver letting out a laugh filled with light. It made Fane's heart soar.

"Ready to be the sky of two dragons?", Fane whispered against Solas' cheek as he began to peck at it with tender kisses.

Solas chuckled, light and loving. "You make it sound as if they are newly hatched, vhenan.", he said, but blinked as Fane began to smirk. "...They are newly hatched, aren't they?"

Fane let out a laugh, not a huff of amused air, not a scoff, but a laugh, deep and filled with joy. Oh, the sky was vast, and he adored it!

"Congratulations, my sky.", Fane purred, putting their foreheads together to stare deep into wide, but truly happy blue orbs with hints of grey. "Looks like we've crossed the line into parenthood."

At that, two voices echoed within age old stone as laughter bubbled forth and hope laced two hearts with joy that was once thought to be undeserved amid mistakes born of care and a world enveloped in darkness and ruin.

Part 1: Character Selection

The first thing you choose in MM8 is, obviously, your character.

While you will be able to pick and choose (and change at will) the 4 characters who accompany you, your character itself cannot change. So choose wisely.

Healing Specialists: 

Cleric can become Grandmasters of Body, Spirit, Mind, and Light Magic. Body magic affords individual (not the whole group at once) healing spells for body damage, paralysis, and insanity and regeneration spells to resurrect dead members of the party without needing a healer. Dies faster than anyone else in the game, so you’ll need to load them up with defenses.

Vampires can only become Masters of Body, Spirit, and Mind magic. This still gives them all the same skills listed above for Clerics, it’s just to a slightly lesser degree of efficacy. Within the Vampire skill set, Grandmaster Vampires can levitate the entire group, avoiding ground triggers for traps and damage from lava or water.  ** Particularly useful in Endgame play.

Tank Specialists:

Minotaur: Can achieve Mastery of almost every form of armor and weapon. Takes damage very slowly, a solid anchor at the center of a team.

Troll: Can achieve Mastery of of almost every form of armor and weapon. Takes damage very slowly, a solid anchor at the center of a team.

Knight: Don’t get me wrong, knights can pack QUITE a punch, especially against dragons (which you only come across in an enemy-capacity by choice). But as they aren’t particularly skilled with ranged damage, I consider them to be more tank-like. One thing to note is that Knights alone can achieve Grandmaster skill at Repair Items, giving them the ability to fix broken armor, weapons, and other wearable items without the need to visit/pay an armorer or weapon-smith. 

**Full disclosure: My personal playing style is to smash enemies hard and fast from a distance with all-damage teams, so I don’t have any experience with Minotaurs and Trolls.

Damage Specialists

Dark Elf: Unparalleled with bows or crossbows, making them endlessly useful in ranged combat. At the Grandmaster level can fire two arrows simultaneously, and if speed skill is increased sufficiently, can fire well beyond when their turn in turn-based-play should end. Dark Elves can also become Grandmasters of Disarm Trap- eliminating the damage threat when opening chests. Dark Elves also can become Grandmasters of the Merchant Skill, letting them buy and sell items at cost, with no loss of value or inflated charge.

Necromancer: Grandmasters of the Water, Fire, Air, Earth, and Dark Magic Abilities. While on their own they are not skilled fighters, their spells are largely Damage-oriented and capable of packing a hard punch for enemies.

Dragons: (Unavailable at Character Creation, so not pictured below) While dragons cannot use weapons or most forms of magic, their fire breath packs a vicious punch capable of doing more damage than most other members of the group combined. Dragons also have the fly ability, keeping the player mobile and making it near impossible for enemies in outdoor spaces to cause damage. Four dragons are available in-game, though only two available from the start (The others can be unlocked at different stages of the main quest). Dragons must be recruited from Dragon Dens, with ONLY the Garrote Gorge Den being friendly to the player.

Dragons Available In Game:

Ithilgore: The most basic of the dragons. Can be retrieved from the FRIENDLY Garrote Gorge dragon den. Will be capable of being leveled to Expert immediately, but will fall short of Master (fly ability) unless you collect horseshoes found around the cities (locations will be noted in later maps).

Flamdring: The second of the dragons you can retrieve immediately. Found in the UNFRIENDLY Ironsand Desert dragon den. Will already be an Expert in the dragon skill, can be elevated to Master (fly ability) fairly easily. Already and Expert in most skills dragons can learn.

Brimstone: One of the stronger dragons in the game. Already a Great Wyrm (Master-level) Dragon. Can only be unlocked after completing the questlines to form the alliance. Located in the UNFRIENDLY Shadowspire Dragon den.

Duroth the Eternal: The highest level Dragon upon pickup (though by the time you get to him your dragons might already be this level or higher). Maxed out on the Dragon skill already, and a Grandmaster in most Dragon abilities. Duroth  can only be recruited after sinking the Regnan Fleet, and is found in the Regna Island dragon den.

Once you’ve chosen your character, you will have to pick 2 available skills and distribute the bonus pool of skill points using the + and - keys. You can also choose the character’s voice, and change their name if you’d like. 

Right-click any skills you are confused by. The two skills that you choose will appear in blue, and right-clicking those will remove them so you can swap them for other skills if you’d like.

****All skills listed can be learned still within the game, you’re just picking what you don’t want to have to pay someone to teach you. The Skills beneath “Bonus Pool” below will also be increased throughout the game. You’re just getting started.

Things To Do In Burger's Lake

Just when you thought you've heard it all from the Burger's Lake Beach Restaurant Group, they add an all new place on Route 34 that they say is a "firehouse" for kids. I guess they just call it "The Place." You know, so you can ask your kids why they called it that?

Located near of that infamous "Fat City" and the old Burger's Beach Drive-In, this new "kid zone" offers everything you'd expect from the Burger's Beach restaurant group and more. From burgers, to hot dogs, to milkshakes, you'll be sure to find a place to buy all those treats you love.

Kids will love playing in the "rain" on the fun and salt water pool or even climbing on the equipment. There's even a slide for the little ones. Everyone can enjoy the game room, race car track, dart board, bumper cars, and water play.

Of course, while this area may seem like a twist on Burger's Beach, it offers many of the same items. For instance, if you are the child who likes to have popcorn, they also offer "popcorn lava." And for those of you who like big burgers, the Grilled Hamburgers and Bacon Cheddar Burger are sure to please.

My two daughters absolutely love this place, as it is a place where all their favorite characters come to play. It makes the drive into and out of town much easier.

The place is open daily from noon until midnight and is sure to make your vacation at Lake Worth one to remember. In fact, my daughters really prefer this new Burger's Lake Beach over Burger's Beach, but it's not a bad place either.

When you have a blast playing games or hanging out with your friends, it's amazing what a little bit of family time can do for you. This is a great way to spend time together, especially when you don't want to go to the ice skating rink in Lake Worth.
